These are the photos that illustrate Episode 1 of this blog. Watch as hopes plummet and optimism diminishes.
The lovely French woman and her daughter who sat next to me. She's so cute you'd give up your seat too, right?
At Philadelphia before disaster strikes. You can see a touch of weariness, but no sense of foreboding.
Maggie Kiss, my seat partner from Philadelphia to London. She was very nice and mothered me most of the time. Apparently I have a "need to be mothered" vibe.
From left to right: Charlotte, Sammy Slutskey, and Kate. Charlotte was a UK native who's been living and working in the US. Sammy was coming to study at Oxford for the summer and I kid you not, that truly is his last name. The only thing that makes this more hilarious is that the airline people, for no reason other than their own amusement, paged him and called him Slugboy. Kate was on her way to a wedding in Edinburgh. They were all part of my Survivor Zone.
Eric was on his way to meet some friends. Who were being told by the airline website that the plane was on time, all the way up til we started actually boarding at 2 AM. He was also in the Zone
Mary, Martha, and their friend Anna who were completing another epic journey once we reached London (seriously, I think it had like seven legs) rounded out our Zone.
My first glimpse of London from the plane. Look how green it is!
Can you tell I'm exhausted?
Ahhhh! The steering wheel's on the wrong side. No, wait, that's where it's supposed to be.
I have finally reached Seething Wells!
My personal cell--I mean dorm room--after everything is unpacked and put away.
The bathroom. And yes, the shower is tiny. It's actually not an bigger than what you see here.
All my stuff organized and neatly put away.
Well that's about it for now. Episode 2 coming soon. Ciao
Lucky for your flat mates you were there to thwart the recon mission of that pigeon. I've seen enough cartoons to know that they have those secret cameras hidden in their pith helmets and they can gather enough information to take out a whole dorm full of unsuspecting college students.
