Episode 11: Issues (And British Food Shows!)

In terms of actually going out and doing things, today was rather slow. I finished up the last part of my paper for After The Dance (which I will look over again tomorrow to see if any revisions must be made) and read the script for Sucker Punch as well as the reading fro Creative Writing. Then this afternoon I caught the K3 bus (which I'm going to have to face facts, is always going to be about five minutes late. At least it's consistent.) to the university so I could print off my Lady Jane Grey and Austin pieces for class on Tuesday. That was my big outing for the day. Woo.

I wanted to make the Asian Chicken with Pasta tonight for dinner so I'd have leftovers to eat later, but when I was in the kitchen I realized we had no aluminum foil. I thought about trying to do without, but I'm still new at the whole cooking thing. You can only screw with recipes once you've done them at least once successfully (or not so successfully and thus you know what to change for next time). So I had toast and corn on the cob. And then I had another piece of bread. And a piece of chicken like they sell for salads. And a small snack bag of chocolate digestive biscuits. And a banana. I was a little snacky.

Maybe that's because of the awesome new show I found on one of the British network sites. It's called Take Away My Takeaway. This guy goes to teenagers who are perpetually eating take out (like three or more times a week) and sends them for three days to the place where they're favorite dishes originated. Then they have to learn how to make those dishes and understand how it's supposed to be made before they have to cook it for some kind of expert (food critic, family who's made that dish for time out of mind, native who is a brilliant chef, etc.). It's really quite fun to watch. You can catch it on YouTube by typing in Take Away My Takeaway.

It only partially distracted me from the face that my skin is any moment now going to start sloughing off my face until I look like Lash in the newest Black Dagger Brotherhood book. Okay, not really, but I have this fear that my acne wash is making my skin deteriorate and now it haunts me a little (hey, I've heard the horror stories and now I have red bumps on both cheeks, like a rash. I can put two and two together). I want something natural I can use long term on skin that is sensitive and won't be linked to cancer or gaping flesh wounds somewhere down the line.

In other news, I may have a plan to keep my hair from feeling so sticky and oily even though I just took a shower (and it's not just me! Chris says her hair feels that way too. Only on one half, which is odd, but it still happens. I'm not a paranoid crazy with princess tendencies. At least not on this issue). I think if I blow dry my hair when I get out of the shower, that will cut the oily feeling (oil+heat= oil evaporation). But I haven't found anyone who has a blow drier yet and it almost seems silly to buy one I can only use in the UK. Although I do have a voltage converter that will convert to US. So I guess it wouldn't be totally useless. I may do this.

Tomorrow I plan to go with Chris and Carlie for a picnic in the park (probably the one near Buckingham Palace) and then do some sightseeing. I can't believe I only have two weekends left in London. Where is the time going?

Today's lesson: British TV has hot guys with British accents. All. The. Time. Ciao

  1. I LOVE "Today's Lesson" (British TV has hot guys with British accents All The Time) made me laugh out loud and now the dogs are staring at me wondering what I'm laughing at... or they want a cookie.

I'm thinking that you need to come home soon before your hair turns to goo and your face flakes off... both really bad things. Maybe that is how the English get back at us Americans for declaring our independence!!!! bad water and no outlet to purchase non-abrasive facial wash.

Have fun on your picnic and thanks for always taking pictures so we can enjoy the trip with you.

    Love ya

  2. PS - Enjoy your British TV show while you are there, because when you look for it on YouTube you get this: This video contains content from Channel 4, who has blocked it in your country on copyright grounds.

    :( so sad.

  3. Dang, that sucks. Sorry. I am enjoying it and I've watched half the episodes (only 25 minutes each) so I'll most likely finish it before coming home. And yes, I totally think that's how the Brits get back at us. Nothing else makes sense.
